About the GDPR and how we can help (General Data Protection Regulation)
The GDPR is new legislation that becomes law in EU countries on 25th May 2018. This will supersede the current Data Protection Act.
What is the GDPR?
In a nutshell the GDPR is a set of strict rules governing information you hold and how it is used. Adequate measures must be put in place by businesses to ensure that all information is kept confidential at all times during all stages of the information gathering, storage and destruction processes.
Central to this is a person’s right to be forgotten which dictates that personal information must be disposed of securely after it has been used for the purpose it was gathered for and it is no longer required. In addition, any person at any time may request that their personal information be destroyed.
What if you don’t comply?
To illustrate how imperative it is for businesses to ensure they have the right processes in place to comply with the GDPR, fines will be enforced for lack of compliance, the maximum of which is up to €20 million or 4% of a company’s global annual turnover in the previous financial year, whichever is higher.
GDPR and Brexit
Although negotiations for the UK to leave the EU have started, the GDPR will be enforced from 25th May 2018 and all UK businesses must comply with it. After the UK has left the EU, the GDPR legislation will still apply to all UK companies and will continue to be mandatory. The list of the GDPR compliances is extensive so the earlier businesses start to put compliant practices in place the easier the changeover will be for them.
Shredding will help companies comply with GDPR
Shredding to BSEN 15713: 2009 standards is an effective way to ensure that businesses meet document and data disposal GDPR requirements as it securely destroys sensitive personal data and prevents it from being accessed by third parties.
For many businesses, in-house shredding simply isn’t practical or cost-effective. Outsourcing this service to a compliant shredding company is easy and cost-effective.
Onsite and Offsite Shredding
Paper Shredding Services provide compliant solutions to make the shredding process quick and easy to manage leaving more time for your staff to get on with their jobs. We can visit your premises at an agreed time with one of our mobile shredding vehicles (onsite shredding) to shred all of your confidential waste.
Alternatively, we offer compliant collect and same day shredding services (offsite) where your confidential waste is brought to our depot for in-house shredding.
All shredding that takes place in our vehicles or at our depot is carried out to BSEN 15713: 2009 standards and this ensures that you are complying with the GDPR.
100% of material shredded by Paper Shredding Services is recycled.
